Reiki – healing energy that flows through your hands

Introduction

Reiki is the Japanese word for universal life-energy, something we all possess as a birth right. It also indicates the method whereby this energy is directed via the hands of the giver to the receiver. Everybody can lay his/her hands on another person and give magnetic life-energy. The uniqueness of Mikao Usui's method lies in the process of adjustment, which can be described as a series of initiations. During these initiations, the Reiki-master uses the symbols and mantra's that Mikao Usui found in the old chronicles about the way Buddha healed.

 

During the initiations the ‘healing channel’ is reopened, hence a certain level of universal life-energy flow is established. As soon as someone has become a Reiki-channel, the healing energy flows automatically out of his/her hands.  This capability remains, for the rest of your life. There are no prerequisites to function as a Reiki-channel. In principle, everybody can do it. It does not require comprehensive mental preparation or intellectual instructions. Just the willingness to be open to the life-energy suffices. After all, all we do is use our hands to pass on healing energy to another person. While Reiki flows from your hands to another person’s body, it also flows through you and consequently further develops your healing power. This way, you will become more purified and healthier yourself, as you give Reiki to others or to yourself.

 

Reiki I

Through four initiations you will become a channel for Reiki. The Reiki-master transfers very powerful energy to you, thereby making use of an ancient Tibetan technique. This energy enables the creation of an open channel through which cosmic energy can flow in, via the top of your head, through the upper energy centers (chakras) towards your hands. After this process you are capable of transferring energy via your hands (by means of physical contact) directly to yourself, other people, plants and animals. A protection mechanism is activated to prevent you giving away your own energy. This mechanism also prevents the ailments of the treated persons are being carried over to you. You will also notice that your senses (psychic, feeling, smell, hearing, taste) will become more sensitive as the vibration of your body is increased by the initiations. The positions of the hands to heal yourself and others will be explained in this course.

 

Reiki II

During this course, there is one initiation and you learn three symbols and mantra’s (holy words that activate and direct certain powers). With these tools you can reinforce the effectiveness of the treatment tremendously, leading to a shorter time of treatment in most cases. In addition, you can treat people, animals, plants, as well as situations, from a distance. Time and space become irrelevant. A third possibility is mental treatment, which offers great support when healing people with psychological problems.

 

Reiki lll

The third degree is the Masters degree, or the degree of Reiki teachers. With this level, you are capable of initiating other people. You can establish a permanent connection with the source of universal life-energy, for every human being. This course is given on the basis of individual guidance. There is however a possibility to receive the Master’s initiation and the symbol that comes with the third degree, without becoming a Reiki-master. This option is meant primarily for people who do not have the intention to start teaching, but do want to further increase their vibration and advance their personal growth. This latter option is identified as Reiki III A.

Phyllis Lei Furumoto, Takata‘s granddaughter was initiated as Master in 1978, and became her successor after her transition in 1980.  Phyllis Lei Furumoto is now the Carrier of the Lineage.

Dr. Mikao Usui, or Usui Sensei as he is called by his students in Japan, is the founder of the Usui System of Reiki. He was born August 15, 1865 in the village of Yago in the Yamagata district of Gifu prefecture, Japan. Usui Sensei had an avid interest in learning and worked hard at his studies. He traveled to Europe and China to further his education. His curriculum included medicine, psychology, and religion. It is thought that he was from a wealthy family, as in Japan only the wealthy could afford to send their children to school. Eventually he became the secretary to Pei Gotoushin, head of the department of health and welfare who later became the Mayor of Tokyo. The connections Usui Sensei made at this job helped him to become a successful businessman. He ended up spontaneously receiving Reiki during a a mystical experience on Mt. Kurama.

In 1914 Usui's personal and business life was failing. As a sensitive spiritualist, Usui Sensei had spent much time meditating at power spots on Mt. Kurama. So he decided to travel to this holy mountain, where he enrolled in Isyu Guo, a twenty-one-day training course. We do not know for certain what he was required to do during this training, but it is likely that fasting, meditation, chanting and prayers were part of the practice. In addition, we know there is a small waterfall on Mt. Kurama where even today people go to meditate. This meditation involves standing under the waterfall and allowing the waters to strike and flow over the top of the head, a practice which is said to activate the crown chakra. Japanese Reiki Masters think that Usui Sensei may have used this meditation as part of his practice. In any case, it was during the Isyu Guo training that the great Reiki energy entered his crown chakra. This greatly enhanced his healing abilities and he realized he had received a wonderful new gift - the ability to give healing to others without depleting his own energy!

His wife came from the Suzuki family, and she is named Sadako and has a son and a daughter. The son's name is Fuji, and he succeeds to the Usui family. Usui Sensei's natural character was gentle and prudent, and he did not keep up appearances. His body was big and sturdy, and his face was always beaming with a smile. But when he faced the difficulties he went ahead with a definite will and yet persevered well, keeping extremely careful. He was a man of versatile talents and also a book lover, knowing well in the wide range from history, biography, medical science, canons of Christianity & Buddhism and psychology up to magic of fairyland, art of curse, science of divination and physiognomy.

 Healing with Reiki.

In the Netherlands, we met a nice couple who were practicing Reiki.

They told us about their Reiki courses and the power of Reiki. We were impressed.

We thought it would be great as a supplement to our spiritual work. We experienced the great value of Reiki and we were serious thinking of doing the course.

Arie already held healing evenings, and helped people to cure their pain by laying his hands on the body.

 

So we did the first degree course and shortly after that, Arie did the second degree. I did the second degree two years later. 

It gave Arie more tools to work with this energy, and together with his intuitive ability, he can help people even better. Specially the ones who can’t find a cure in the regular way.

 

Arie completed Reiki by following the Master/Teacher course, and initiated me a few month later.

We have never regret this step. Arie initiated with success more than 80 people in Reiki, and 3 persons in the Master/Teacher degree.  Also the third eye will be opened for more spiritual growth. Many of students experienced this as being more aware of themselves and things around them.
